There is a lot of research and debate on where the line should be drawn. It looks from the research like buying a thing (like your boat) that allows you to have different experiences has similar happiness benefits to buying experiences.One philosophical point: We have a small sailboat, and make memories on the boat when we take it out. If we didn’t have the boat, we wouldn’t go sailing probably (although we might do something else.) If a thing (like a boat) allows you to have different experiences, is it a thing or an experience?
